
Matar paneer is a comforting and quick Indian recipe perfect for everyday meals. A popular vegetarian dish with a mixture of cottage cheese & green peas gazed in creamy curry sauce.
This recipe has several variations, including adding potato, cream, and even cashew paste. However, this recipe is simple with just peas and cottage cheese cubes. Make it for special occasions or everyday meals; it’s always going to be a hit.
Serves: 1 or 2
Ingredients:
For the curry sauce:
- 2 tbsp Oil
- 1 Finely Sliced Onion
- 3 Finely Chopped Garlic Cloves
- 1-inch piece Minced Ginger
- 3 Finely Sliced Tomatoes
Other ingredients:
- 1+½ tsp oil
- 1 Bay Leaf
- 1-inch Cinnamon Stick
- 1 tsp Jeera (Cumin) Seeds
- ¼ tsp Turmeric powder
- 1 tsp Red Chilli Powder
- 1 tsp Coriander Powder
Salt as required:
- 1+½ tsp oil
- 1 cup Water
- 1 cup Boiled Green Peas (Matar)
- 12 cubes of Cottage Cheese (Paneer)
- 2 tbsp Finely Chopped Fresh Cilantro
Directions:
Step-1
Heat oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add cumin, bay leaf, cinnamon stick, tomatoes, onions, ginger and garlic. Cook and stir the mixture until heated through and fragrant for 2 to 3 minutes. Add turmeric to the mixture and simmer for 2 to 3 minutes. Stir and add red chilli powder and coriander powder.
Step-2
Add peas, cottage cheese and salt to the mixture. Add water, cover the skillet and let it simmer until heated for about 5 minutes. Remove bay leaf and cinnamon stick.
Garnish with cilantro leaves and serve hot.
